“Black pottery is one of the oldest art forms. Black pottery fragments dated back as early as 2600 B.C. from Longshan Culture. Our ancestors gave the ebony color and patterns to the pottery, and made it different from their daily use pots. The art works found was so amazing, I immediately fell in love with black pottery. Now I use the black pottery as canvas adding more traditional elements to make them unique and beautiful,” says Liu Qingyuan.
Liu re-discover the ancient process of making the black pottery through countless experiments. The ebony color is not painted on, so the color does not fade with time. Liu now has a studio in Shaanxi province.
