When Liu was 6, he always sat beside craftsmen watching them weave the bamboo-made wares, and thinking how he could do it better. When he was old enough to cut bamboos, he started to make bamboo wares himself. Within one year, Liu already could create new patterns by himself. He was barely 10 years old. The fans adorned with graceful patterns were his favorite works woven by thin bamboo strips. He created his own style of bamboo weaving and made a name for him before he was 18.
In 1980, Liu started to learn the art of Bamboo covered porcelain, one of the most prestigious field in Bamboo art. Always thinking of improving and innovation, he developed his own technique – “intricately woven pattern” that has become the major woven technique in making bamboo covered chinaware.
