The artist uses a mixture of oil painting and wax dye techniques, painted this image of the bride piggyback riding on a young man in front of a wedding scene. On the background, a band plays various music instruments, and few men carry a flower sedan with Chinese character of “Shuang Xi” (double happiness) written on. This is a wedding of Yi ethnic group in China.
According to the customs of the Yi, the brother of groom should go to the home of bride and welcome her joining in the family. After a whole night of celebration at the bride's home, groom's brother will carry the bride on his back to home, ensuring the feet of bride will not touch the ground, which is tradition for hoping the marriage last forever. This tradition has been practiced for thousands of years, even today.
