Fish, as a cultural symbol, has lasting and inseparable relation with Chinese culture. It was deified as a spirit in the Yangshao Culture, which was one Eolithic Culture in ancient Chinese history dated about 7000~5000 years back. Even now, fish is still a symbol standing for propitious and fine life among Chinese people, because the word "Fish" has the same pronunciation with another word "Surplus" in Chinese language.

“Black pottery is one of the oldest art forms. Black pottery fragments dated back as early as 2600 B.C. from Longshan Culture. Our ancestors gave the ebony color and patterns to the pottery, and made it different from their daily use pots.  The art works found was so amazing, I immediately fell in love with black pottery.  Now I use the black pottery as canvas adding more traditional elements to make them unique and beautiful,” says Liu Qingyuan.
