This handmade mud sculpture features a Chinese lion (also called foo dogs) with one paw stepping on a ball. The baby lion has a cartoon like smile on its face hence the name “Happy Lion”. The item is hand cast and hand painted. The guardian lion is a mythical figure with power for protecting homes. Long before any Chinese actually seen a real lion, they created the image of lions with descriptions of lions from Buddhist monks. This lion sculpture has been painted with lotus and peony for good luck, Pomegranate fruit for prospering offspring, and green grass for repelling evil spirits.
