This is a portrait of Lord Guan Yu sitting and his assistant Zhou Cang stanging at the back holding Guan's weapon.  Guan Yu is one of the warriors of Shu Kingdom during the three kingdom period.  His stories are featured in many Chinese operas and books.  He is also one of the most well known and loved historical figure among Asian cultures.  Guan Yu was known for his virtue and red face. 

This painting was originally painted in Qing Dynasty by unknown artist.  Cao Xiaohui replicated the painting using Chinese brush pen and hand mounted the painting on a silk Chinese painting scroll.
