Pottery Statue, 'Tang Plump Lady Holding a Dog'

This pottery statue is a replica of Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618~A.D. 907) relic featuring a plump lady gentlely holding her dog.  The people in Tang Dynasty considered the plump body shape to be the beauty standard.

The gentlewoman wears her hair in a bun with few wisp of long hair hanging downward, which is the most popular hairstyle during Tang Dynasty. She wears a long, loose, flowing green robe with wide sleeves; a pair of traditional shoes with bent upward cloud-like head are on her feet, as an old saying, this kind of shoes could help women to keep the long robe in tidiness for afraid lest women would fall by accidents. Holding a  dog in her arms, this figurine shows the gentle woman’s noble status with her gentler expression and plump body figure.
