Using one piece of black onyx gem, the artist carved it into the shape of a hexagon cylinder with a pointed tip.  (The hexagon shape is not perfect proving it is genuinely hand carved)  The stone is set in a Tibetan silver top (Tibetan silver consists mostly white copper, nickel, and silver). 

Onyx is the birth stone for the zodiac sign, Virgo.  Onyx is said to banish grief and bring fortune to the wearer.  According to ancient Greek myth, Cupid used his arrow head cut some of Venus' fingernails.  The fingernail clippings did not perish and became onyx stones.  Tibetans also love to use Onyx in their colorful jewelry pieces.
