Wood Wall Hanging, 'Nahki Guardian'
This rectangular wood wall hanging features the "Thunder God" of Nahki ethnic group. The guardian god has bird facial features, wings, and the body of a human. Around the imagery are Dongba scripts, the oldest pictographic script still in use. The plate is hand painted, then the artist put on the design by carve off the paint. About the artist, Cun liusan
Cun Liusan is a Yunnan Nahki (Naxi) native artisan. He lives in the old city of Lijiang,Yunnan Province, China. He specializes in wood etching. He first paint his wood plates in glossy solid colors or gradients of different colors. Then he uses it as a canvas, and etches his designs on. His designs are mainly about Nahki gods, guardians, and totems.
